COLORFUL balloons offering messages of hope have been filling the skies of Coalpit Heath. Children from The Manor Church of England Primary School in Roundways released the balloons after a church service on the theme of hope. The class of 28 pupils aged five and six had been studying Easter in their classes and ideas for sharing prayers. Head teacher Hilary Eade said: "We have collective worship ever day and this term's theme has been hope. We introduce the idea perhaps with the story and then the themes are explored in class with activities for each age group. Talking about Easter is quite difficult for younger ones to understand, but we got them to think about the idea of new life and identify their ideas for the future." The children and their teacher Halina Kelly wrote down their prayers to attach to balloons and after a service at St Saviour's Church, they were released. "It was quite a blowy day so the balloons were not around for very long", Ms Eade said. "It was quite a nice visual way for them to send their wishes to heaven for God to read."
