Emergency Activities - Winter 2009/10

In the event that the school has to close at short notice, children need to continue their learning as well as they can at home. Teachers have given the children some ideas that will be appropriate for each class. Additional activities might include:

  • Writing 'Thank you' letters to those who have given Christmas presents.
  • Keeping a diary.
  • Writing a list of instructions to tell someone how to ... (e.g. make a sandwich, turn on the DVD player, make the bed etc).
  • Help an adult to do some baking and write out the recipe.

Our new theme for Collective worship in the New Year will be 'Justice,' so children could discuss some of the following questions with the family:

  • Is it fair that children in some countries do not have enough to eat or clean clothes to wear?
  • Is it fair that 'rich' countries like ours take advantage of other poorer ones by paying low prices for products like coffee or chocolate?
  • Why do we have rules?
  • Is life fair to everyone?
  • They could then create a poster or find out more about how we could make a difference by researching Fair Trade.

Don't forget to check out the links from this website to others containing maths, games and challenges.

Message from Miss Owen

I have just received this link from SWGFL and it's excellent for 'home learning'. It covers all subject areas in each key stage and would be great to add to our website. There are lots of ideas of activities the children can choose to do, as well as links to other websites that are very useful.

The topic sheet listed focuses for all subjects, so parents could pick any of the topics that they wished in addition to this.

As this is a new SWGFL site, some of the topics are blank, but there are others with activities.
